What is Ministry to Missionaries?
His Secret Place, a Ministry to Missionaries (M2M) is an international retreat to equip, encourage, empower and refresh missionaries from around the world in order to help them remain in their fields. Also, our staff will share some effective mission field anti-attrition skills so missionaries can be better equipped for when they return to their mission work. It is a time and occasion whereby God's servants who may be feeling "burnout" or discouragement can find recovery and strengthening in Christ's rest (Matthew 11:28-29).
Since its inception in September of 2009, this annual retreat takes place in late August or early September at Newfoundland's International Heritage Site, Gros Morne National Park. Participants are treated with Newfoundland's legendary hospitality and have opportunity to partake in relaxing activities and services. M2M is open to all Christian missionaries, and volunteer staff are available to assist the missionaries with reflection and spiritual health if asked. Click here for next event details.
Missionaries attending M2M rest in beautiful hotel accommodations and enjoy revitalizing personal care services. Guests are treated to a variety of sensational outdoor activities such as sea kayaking, boating, and hiking. They will also experience the gentle encouragement of our staff as they reflect and enhance their spiritual well-being. This retreat - including all accommodations, services, and activities - we offer free of charge. Guests are responsible only for their transportation costs.
Ministry to Missionaries will be a powerful celebration of missionaries and their work forwarding God's kingdom.
Why Ministry to Missionaries?
Missionaries in cross-cultural settings face a variety of different challenges including adapting to a dangerous social environment, and living far away from family and friends. Many missionaries experience periods of high stress and discouragement. Often, they experience burnout.
M2M is a place where missionaries can be physically, emotionally, and spiritually refreshed. They can renew their passion for missions and find restoration in His presence.
The need for such a ministry has been confirmed by the results of a study by the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) Mission Commission. To learn more, read "The Journey to His Secret Place".
What are the goals of M2M?
- To empower missionaries to remain in their fields.
- To create a national awareness of missionaries as international volunteers.
- To engage the Church in celebrating missionaries and encouraging them in their work.
- To encourage the Church in its critical role to care for its missionaries in a practical, nurturing, and personal way.
